Trudeau explains why Trump threatens to make Canada the 51st state of US

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau explained why newly elected US President Donald Trump is talking about turning Canada into the 51st state. According to him, these comments are merely a distraction from the consequences of imposing tariffs, reports CNN.
"President Trump, who is a very skillful negotiator, is getting people to be somewhat distracted by that, by that conversation, to take away from the conversation around 25% tariffs on oil and gas and electricity and steel and aluminum and lumber and concrete," said Trudeau.
CNN reminds us that in November, Trump promised to significantly increase tariffs on goods from Mexico, Canada, and China starting from the first day of his presidency.
"On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders. This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!" Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Continuing his comments on the issue, Trudeau stated in an interview with CNN that such a policy could rarely increase costs for American businesses and consumers.
"Everything the American consumers buy from Canada is suddenly going to get a lot more expensive if he moves forward on these tariffs," said Trudeau.
CNN reports that Canada, Mexico, and China are the largest trading partners of the US.
A few days ago, Trudeau stated that Trump's suggestion to make Canada the 51st state of the US through economic leverage is unfeasible.
